Rotterdam Short Sea Terminals (RST) has
ordered six Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers to be delivered in the second
quarter of 2024.
The order, part of RST’s fleet renewal
program, includes the performance management tool Kalmar Insight for all six machines.
RST chief executive Arno Storm says: “We
are constantly striving to improve our environmental performance, and hybrid
machines are a concrete step forward in line with our corporate social
responsibility goals.”
RST, the largest short sea shipping hub in
Europe, handles more than 50 vessels a week.
Kalmar sales director horizontal
transportation Ron Robinson says: "We are delighted to support them with
their transition to more eco-efficient cargo-handling operations with our
hybrid straddle carrier solution, which can cut fuel consumption by up to 40%
compared to equivalent diesel-powered machines.”
